The return of the ever-popular street festival, Summer Sundays, will be back at home on Spring Street in Williamstown this July.  The Sunday events, meant to offer a fun, activity-filled evening for residents and visitors alike, will begin on Sunday, July 7.  The event begins at 4pm and continues until the movie under the stars finishes.  While there isn’t any cost to participate, many vendors and local merchants will have items for sale.

This year, patrons can expect an array on children’s activities & science experiments, local music and dancing on the Denison Gatehouse lawn, local artisans and crafters on the American Legion lawn and fun and food galore!  We will welcome How We Roll, a local foodie from the Berkshires who is making a name for themselves nationally, onto the scene, as well as the summer traditions of hot dogs and lemonade.  New to the line-up of fun this year is IS 183 IS Art.  IS 183 North County will be stationed on the lawn of Where’d You Get That!? with a creative art project, taught by local artists.  Artwork will available for sale.

Beginning at dusk, Images Cinema will present Family Flicks Under the Stars on the Morgan Lawn (top of Spring Street).  The featured films will include: Some Like it Hot (July 7), Ghostbusters (July 14), The Music Man (July 21) and The Incredibles (July 28).  Movie goers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Concessions will be available for sale.

The Sunday events will be cancelled due to inclement weather.  However, the Family Flicks will show regardless of the weather; their location will be moved to Images Cinema (located at 50 Spring Street).

Generous sponsors of the event include: Adams Community Bank, Berkshire Direct, Greylock Federal Credit Union, Images Cinema, Mt. Greylock Regional High School, Town of Williamstown, Williamstown Community Chest, Williams College and the Williamstown Savings Bank.

For more information on Summer Sundays, please visit www.SummerSundays01267.com or “Like” us on Facebook at Summer Sundays @ 6.  For general info, contact the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce at info@williamstownchamber.com or 413-458-9077.

Williamstown will host their annual Hometown Fourth of July Parade at 11am on Thursday, July 4, 2013.  The festive parade will kick-off promptly at 11am and travel from Southworth Street, west onto Route 2 and down Spring Street.  At the end of the parade route at the base of Spring Street, parade goers will be treated to a barbeque.

Following the barbeque, the Independence Day traditions will continue at 2pm on the lawn of the Williams College Museum of Art.  Visiting actors to the Williamstown Theatre Festival make the founding documents come to life as they read the original Founding Documents and the British reply.

The local celebration will continue into the evening.  The North Adams Steeplecats will host the Sanford Mainers at 6:30pm at Joe Wolf Stadium in North Adams, followed by a grand fireworks display.

The Fourth of July parade is generously sponsored by Williamstown Savings Bank (a member of the MountainOne Financial Partners) and Williams College.

Interested in participating in the parade?  Contact the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce at info@williamstownchamber.com or 413-458-9077.

Wild Oats Market kicks off its annual membership drive on Monday, July 1. Anyone who joins the co-op during the member drive, which runs from July 1-31, receives a FREE gift, in addition to all the existing benefits that Wild Oats member-owners receive. They will also be entered into the co-op’s raffle for new and renewing members.

Here are some of the advantages that Wild Oats member-owners enjoy:

  • Storewide discounts on Member Appreciation Days, held four times a year. Our next Member Day is Friday, August 16, all day.
  • Discounts on special orders of non-sale items
  • Subscription to the Wild Oats newsletter which includes member-only coupons
  • Potential rebate during years when the co-op achieves profitability
  • An ownership stake in the co-op
  • The opportunity to meet and be a part of a thriving cooperative community
  •  And last but not least, a FREE slice of birthday cake on your birthday from our fresh bakery (applies to everyone in your household)

Perhaps the best reason to join Wild Oats Market is to show your support for a business that reflects your values. 90 percent of our produce is organic year-round; and 70 percent is local during the Northeast growing season. Over one-third of our overall sales come from local products. Our fresh meats and poultry are naturally and humanely raised, with no antibiotics and no added hormones. We receive our meats directly from our suppliers and they are cut and packaged in-house to ensure quality.

Through the Recork and Gimme 5 programs (for recycling wine corks and #5 plastics, respectively), Wild Oats Market shows its commitment to sustainable living practices. Through events like its Earth Day Celebration and classes on healthy cooking and eating and homesteading activities like canning and composting, Wild Oats further supports sustainable living practices and community awareness.

As a cooperative business, Wild Oats Market depends on member equity to help provide the capital needed to fund projects like its recent fresh meat & seafood expansion, an initiative undertaken in response to member feedback. Membership is only $20 a year, payable on a yearly basis for a period of 10 years. When a member has paid $200, he or she is fully vested in the co-op and will no longer need to renew yearly.

Signing up for membership is easy. Shoppers can sign up at any register, or call the store at (413) 458-8060 to join over the phone. During the member drive (July 1-31), new signups receive their choice of a Wild Oats heavy duty reusable grocery bag made from recycled bottles or a 10% off coupon that can be applied to all purchases except beer & wine, special orders, gift cards and consignment items. They are also entered into a weekly raffle for a $25 gift card.

Wild Oats Market is a member-owned, cooperative-based whole foods market. One need not be a member to shop at Wild Oats, although membership offers several benefits. The market carries a wide selection of organic and naturally-made products, including: meats, eggs, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, breads, pastas, oils, cereals, juices and chocolate. In addition, the store offers a hot foods bar, a salad bar, a fresh grab-and-go deli, and breads, rolls and pastries freshly baked on-site. Wild Oats Market also carries supplements and personal care products, as well as environmentally-friendly household supplies. The co-op is located at 320 Main Street in Williamstown.
